Artifacts
Photographic art by Mark Robert Halper
Mark Robert Halper
For more than three and a half decades, Mark Robert Halper has created photographs for magazines, advertising agencies, corporations, and families while pursuing his own photographic projects.
With Artifacts, he turns to objects that have been part of his life, and to the people, memories, and experiences they bring to mind.
The stories we keep
Artifacts began at home during the pandemic, when Mark started photographing the toys and objects he had lived with for years. A plastic ray gun could take him back to being a child, when an afternoon in the backyard became an adventure on a distant planet.
Some of these objects have deeply personal stories, but you don’t need to know those stories to enjoy the photographs.
Refractive Alchemy
Refractive Alchemy is the process Mark developed to change what the camera sees through light and optics. Every image is created in camera, in a single moment in time.
He works with focus, reflection, and refraction to photograph familiar objects in ways we don’t usually see them.
A personal work of art
Mark can also create a work of photographic art that is personal to you, whether you want to honor someone you love and miss, reconnect with a cherished memory, or celebrate a relationship.
It starts with a conversation about what matters to you, and together you choose an object for Mark to photograph. The finished artwork can be enjoyed by anyone who sees it, while holding a story that you may choose to keep to yourself.
It begins with a conversation
If someone or something comes to mind as you look through Artifacts, Mark would be glad to talk with you about it.
After he creates your photograph, you and your spouse or partner will visit his Los Angeles studio for a private unveiling.
There is no cost to have your artifact photographed and no obligation to purchase the artwork.
